Yamada Fuutaro is a famous writer who has had many of his works made in to films and theater shows including “Mahou Tensei” and his “Ninpou Series”. His work Basilisk 〜The Kōga Ninja Scrolls was also made into an animated series. The memorial is built near Sekinomiya Elementary school, where Yamada attended school as a child. Yamada’s childhood home, old shrine, local sake brewer and the Sanin highway and stones with Yamada’s words which are engraved can be found in the surrounding areas. The memorial has many of Yamada’s valuables and is viewed as the place to visit to further understand and get in touch with Yamada’s life and work. There are over 1500 pieces displayed at the memorial, and many were donated by his wife, relatives and friends. Items displayed include first edition books, handwritten manuscripts, creative notes, letters, scrapbooks, photos, clothing, personal items and more. Yamada’s desk, chair and bookcase were brought from his home in Tama-shi in Tokyo and a portion of his workspace is recreated in the exhibition.
