Mt. Hyonosen is the tallest mountain in Hyogo Prefecture. With a height of 1510 meters, it is viewed to be a top class treasure of the Kansai Area. Both Mt. Hyonosen and Mt. Hachibuse are declared as Hyōnosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Parks.
The area is surrounded by bountiful nature and is one of the few places where subarctic marine plants live in Western Japan.
During the green season, the area is perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the plants while mountain climbing, hiking, exploring the canyons or camping. Photographers come to take photos of the mountain during each of the four seasons. They most frequently come at the start of May before rice planting begins to take photos of the backwards reflection of the mountain in the rice terraces (Bekku no Tanada) that are filled with water.
