EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Return of the “Ohashiri Festival”

On Saturday, April 15th, the city of Yabu welcomes back the much-anticipated return of the traditional “Ohashiri Festival.”🎉
For the first time in four years, the festival will bring back the procession of the 150kg Mikoshi (Shintō’s sacred palanquin) throughout the city to celebrate the arrival of spring!
Although its scale has been reduced for this year’s edition and the event was shortened to a one-day program due to the pandemic, the highlight of the festival of the “Kawatogyo” will take place, in which the Mikoshi will be carried across the raging Oya River on the shoulders of locals to reenact the legend of the Enshrined Deity that rode on the back of the “Great Salmon King” in the river – a creature believed to be messengers of the river gods.

【Date】Saturday, April 15, 2023
【Place】Yabu Shrine – Itsuki Shrine

※The river procession will take place around 12:30 p.m. near the Kojō Bridge (near “Michi no Eki Tajima Rakuza”).

We look forward to welcoming you to see this 1800 years-old festival of Yabu City with all our residents 😊
